Frequently asked questions

Why are AirPods not shown?

macOS does not give sandboxed Mac App Store apps access to AirPods battery information. Batt Bar shows Apple Magic Mouse, Keyboard and Trackpad levels, which macOS does expose.

Why is there no "Top apps" (energy by app) list?

Listing other apps' energy use requires reading other processes, which the App Sandbox does not allow. For per-app energy, open Activity Monitor → Energy. (Batt Bar itself cannot show it.)

Why does Low Power Mode open System Settings instead of switching it?

Changing Low Power Mode needs administrator rights that Mac App Store apps cannot request. Batt Bar shows whether Low Power Mode is on and offers a button that opens Battery settings, where you can change it.

What does the charge-limit display mean?

It shows the charge limit your Mac currently has set (read from macOS), or "Off" if no limit is set. Batt Bar only displays it; it cannot change your charge limit. Change it in System Settings → Battery.

I see "This Mac has no battery." — is something wrong?

Batt Bar is designed for Mac laptops. On a desktop Mac with no battery it shows "This Mac has no battery." with the power source and adapter details, because there is no battery to read.

The power (watts) value updates slowly.

Live watts come from macOS's battery registry, which refreshes about once a minute or on change, slower than low-level system counters.

Where is my data? How do I delete it?

Battery history and settings stay on your Mac in the app's container; nothing is sent anywhere. Delete the app to remove them. See the Privacy Policy.

How do I get the battery status from Terminal or Shortcuts?

Batt Bar provides read-only Shortcuts actions (for example Get Battery Status). To use it, first open the Shortcuts app and create a shortcut that contains the Batt Bar "Get Battery Status" action, and give the shortcut a name. You can then run that shortcut from Shortcuts, Siri or the menu bar, or from Terminal: shortcuts run "your shortcut name".
